Women’s Game: Saint Francis Xavier 1-0 Saint Mary's Huskies
It was almost taken as a practice as the level of intensity never really got out of hand. The St. FX X-Women won the game 1-0 against the St. Mary’s Huskies.
The two teams had already qualified for the post-season and kept injuries in mind when making the starting line-ups. Both teams rested their key players.
The X-Women had controlled the first half and it paid off as time expired. They managed to score a goal as extra time in half was winding down. #16 Shannon Boisvert scored the game’s only goal.
In the second half there was not much to talk about as both teams really weren’t giving it a lot of intensity. St. FX was just controlling the play and taking their chances when they had them. The Huskies were not playing some of their better players and it showed with the lack of the offensive power.
Both teams will meet in the first round of the playoffs which begin next week at Acadia. The matchup will be a good one as both teams have fire power, especially with Kelly Burgess and Heidi Pentz for the Huskies.

Men’s Game: 1-1 Draw
St. Mary’s got off to a fast start in the first half with a goal from #10 Elvir Gigolaj. The play was set up by Jhonattan Cordoba as Gigolaj beat the defender and put it past the keeper on the near side post.
St. FX was not throwing in the towel and the #1 ranked team in the country was not giving up. The X-Men went out there with a lot of determination and in the second half they got a goal. The goal came with 15 minutes left in the game. #12 Paul Oppenheim scored the goal. SMU goalie Adam Miller came out to challenge the X forward and was caught out of place. Oppenheim then hammered home the ball to tie it up.
The two teams head into the playoffs next week with first round byes. Both teams have been very good this year with X going undefeated (11-0-2), and earning the #1 ranking in the country. Cordoba was a continuous threat throughout the game and will be relied upon during the playoffs.
